A pairing set in the Angel Falls setting :iconangel-fallsda:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Strange Bedfellows

Behind her cowl, the young woman known on the streets as Constrictor frowned as she crouched beside her partner. She glanced over to the dark haired woman laying prone on the rooftop. “You still want to go in hard? There has to be at least a dozen of them on the first floor. God only knows how many will show up once they call for reinforcements. This neighborhood it won’t take long to get them. Your kevlar-covered ass is going to be awful exposed. I won’t be able to help you while I am extracting the hostages.”

“Didn’t ask for your help,” her raven-haired companion replied curtly. “You get the hostages clear and I’ll handle the Tong.” The black clad woman never looked up, her face dimly illuminated by the green glow from the eyepiece of her rifle’s night vision scope. Her face was impassive as she watched the movements of the tong soldiers going in and out of the dilapidated apartment building. “You sure you will be able to get the girls out?”

Constrictor nodded as she lifted a small custom made backpack. “ Pneumatic grapple gun, 200 feet of carbon micro-tube zip line. I’ll have them safe in the adjacent building before the tong thugs can figure out you are just the diversion. Just don’t bring the building down around us.”

“No promises.”

“ Punisher, I’m serious. There are civilians in that building. You know the tong is using them as human shields to keep the Angel Falls police from getting suspicious!”

Punished turned her head and favored her partner with a rare smile. “Kidding. Gotcha.”

Constrictor frowned and shook her head. “I still don’t know how you are going to pull this off. If you have to avoid the heavy ordinance you are going to be seriously outgunned, are you sure don’t want me to..”

Punisher held up her palm to stop her partner. “You take care of your end, I’ll handle mine. Time to get into position.” She stood up and slung the modified assault rifle over her shoulder. Fitting a small earpiece into her ear, she turned the miniature radio device on. “Radio check.”

Constrictor nodded as Punisher’s voice came over the radio built into her battle suit’s cowl. “Read you loud and clear, five by five. You good?”

Punisher nodded. “I’ll call you when I am in position. I go in on your signal.”

Constrictor smiled from behind her cowl. “Just try to keep the body count in single digits, ok?”

“No promises,” Punisher said with no trace of humor in her voice this time. “The Tong is growing too powerful. Those men are guilty and need to be punished. If the cops can’t handle them, I will.”

Constrictor shook her head ruefully. Part of her agreed with what Punisher said. The city of Angel Falls was currently experiencing an economic resurgence. News that three large mega-corporations were significantly expanding their presences in Angel Falls had brought an influx of people desperate for jobs and a better life. Along with the increases in population came those who would prey on the people seeking a better life. Organized crime organizations like the mafia, yakuza, and Chinese tongs were all positioning themselves to take advantage of the financial windfall.

The mega-corps Universal Omni-tech, Yoyodyne Industries, and Nova-Gen Systems were all bringing huge revenues into city coffers and greed and corruption within the city’s bureaucracy was growing at an alarming rate. Vigilantes like Punisher were taking up where corrupt or inept police agencies left off. The criminal element of the city was taking advantage of the situation, increasing their spheres of influence wherever possible.

The latest wave of crime was topped off with the kidnapping of the daughters of Nova-Gen’s CEO. While working on an unrelated case, Constrictor stumbled on some information that had suggested one of the numerous Chinese Tong gangs was behind the kidnapping. In light of the substantial reward being offered by the girls’ family, the costumed bounty hunter had decided it was worthwhile looking into the situation. While working her sources and informants she crossed path with the notorious vigilante known as Punisher or La Femme Punisher. Feared by criminal element like few others, the grim vigilante was a self appointed judge, jury, and executioner for any criminals that were unlucky enough to cross her path. After a very tense meeting in the apartment of a low level tong enforcer, the two of them had agreed to share resources and intelligence regarding the crime. The vigilante wanted to send a message to the growing criminal organizations that their brazen acts would not go unpunished and unopposed. While the costumed bounty hunter had no love for any of the organized crime organizations, Constrictor’s main interest was financial. Still, the pair of unlikely allies had proven very effective. Using a variation of the bad cop-worse cop, they soon learned the identities and location of those responsible for the audacious kidnapping.

After a day of reconnaissance, the duo had decided on a plan of action. Constrictor would use her battle suit’s abilities to infiltrate the top floors of the five-story apartment building and secure the two young girls while Punisher provided a diversion by a frontal assault to occupy the tong thugs and soldiers. The plan called for Constrictor to extract the girls and move them via zip line into the adjacent building housing a small printing company. Punisher’s armored van had been disguised as one of the printing company’s delivery vans and was parked inside the loading bay. After securing the girls, Constrictor would use the van to pick up Punisher and complete their escape.

“If she’s still alive,” thought Constrictor. Charging solo into a Tong stronghold was not what the bounty hunter considered tactically sound but her partner had insisted she could handle it. The vigilante’s street rep suggested this was less of an idle boast that it might appear. Still she was concerned for her partner’s safety. The grim crime fighter could be a bit intense and downright scary at times, but she was incredibly efficient and focused on her mission. The bounty hunter had found herself enjoying the partnership, something that was a rare experience for the usually solitary operative. So, with those thoughts on her mind, she watched as Punisher swung over the edge of the roof and dropped agilely onto the fire escape attached to the side of the building. As the black clad woman made her way to street level, Constrictor moved to the far side of the building. Using her suit’s cybernetic controlled wrist coils and her own enhanced abilities, the bounty hunter prepared to sprint across the roof top and launch herself over the alley. If she could leap out far enough she should be able to snap onto the other building with her wrist coils. She was acutely aware of the distance her leap had to cover. It was close to the maximum she could accomplish under controlled circumstances in the gym. She checked the backpack straps one last time and waited for her partner’s signal.

In just a few moments the built in radio came to life. “In postion. Start your run.” Taking a couple of deep breaths, Constrictor broke out in a sprint towards the edge of the roof overlooking the apartment building. She felt a surge of adrenaline as she launched herself out into space, six floors above the street below.

“Showtime!” she thought as she extended her adamantium wrist coils.

Great story, great characters! They do seem an unlikely pair, but I suspect they'll soon be making a name for themselves putting a big hurt on the underworld.

Great story,

Nice to know that La Femme Punisher can crack a joke and smile. Being a one dimensional angel of death gets old fast. Also nice to know that a merceneay like Constrictor can and does think and plan to avoid cililian casualties.

One minor nit pick. When referring to weapons you are the proper spelling is ord-nance not ord-in-ance. Interestingly the correct pronunciation is ord-in-ance. I looked up the word ordinance on an online dictonary and was lead to the above info.

One idea for Constrictor. Snake Eyes surveillance systems. independantly operating mechanical and electronic snakes that crawl through the underbrush or the pipe lines to listen and catch video to be transmitted back to Constrictor. Or maybe they can be used to create a distraction.

One idea for La Femme Punisher. A cape similar to Batmans cape. One that could be used to facilitate a dramatic Death From Above type attack. I expect it would look very dramatic having La Femme Punisher crashing through a skylight with her trademark skull emblazoned on the underside of the cape. Even if she has to ditch the cape for combat purposes a dramatic entrance is worth a lot.

Sorry for the length of the post.

An unlikely pairing but they seem to work well with each other. The Tongs won't what hit them.

Contstrictor and LFP look great together. I wonder what they will look like together in 3D? :D

I hope I did justice to your character in that bit of prose. LFP struck me as a very no-nonsense type of character when hunting criminals.

LFP is definitely a no-nonsense type of character. She's methodical and determined when she's punishing criminal. You certainly did LFP justice here.
