Falling Star 1

UltraViolet’s crimson lightning arced out from her hands and sizzled through the air before striking the heroine. Freedom Star’s skin glowed brightly where the energy had struck, but was otherwise undamaged by the powerful energies the villain had hurled at her.

“Nice try UltraViolet, but I can adjust my energy matrix to cancel or absorb your energies. But your unlicensed discharge of metahuman energies will be added to your list of crimes. Be advised you are now in violation of Angel Falls city ordinance 17243.98 regarding….”

The black and Violet clad villain rolled her eyes as the patriotically attired heroine droned on. “Gods, doesn’t this one ever shut up? I don’t know what is worse, those damned star blasts of hers, or her non-stop recital of legal codes,” the villain thought to herself as she dodged a pair of energy blasts the heroine fired from her hands towards UltraViolet. “Still, my lightning isn’t slowing her down, and hand to hand is useless when she turns immaterial and I pass right through her. Time to try another tactic.”

“ … and is punishable by up to an extra ten years of incarceration in a federal Meta-Max facility,” finished the heroine. Freedom Star’s eyes glowed bright yellow as they projected twin beams of cosmic energy. The ocher colored beams swept across the villain’s flight path, forcing her to take evasive action. Even with her own superhuman reflexes, UltraViolet felt the energy beams cut through her costume and sear her skin underneath.

“You bureaucratic bitch, you will pay for that!” screamed the villain. Violet raised her hands, unleashing another spray of crimson lightning. Unlike before, this blast was not aimed at the heroine. The lightning sizzled as it passed Freedom Star and arced towards one of the elevated walkways connecting the twin towers of Yoyodyne Industries corporate headquarters. Dozens of office workers looked on in horror as the red hued energy blasted into the Plasti-steel and glass walkway. Windows blew out and structural members began to metal as the violent energy ran along the length of the walkway.

“Cowardly villain, what have you done?” shouted Freedom Star as she broke off to begin rescuing the trapped workers on the crumbling walkway. Seeing the heroine distracted, UltraViolet took time to summon her psychic powers. Closing with the retreating heroine, Violet lashed out with a mental attack.

Freedom Star had only a fraction of a second to react as she felt the psionic strike bore into her mind. Her blue eyes rolled back as the wave of mental energy disrupted her thoughts and scrambled her synapses. The energy glow surrounding the heroine’s body faltered and winked out as her body reverted from its energy form back onto flesh and blood. The heroine’s body dropped like a stone as her powers shut down, gravity claiming her unmoving form and pulling her towards the city streets thirty floors below.

UltraViolet arched one perfectly shaped eyebrow. That was easy, too easy. There was no indication Freedom Star possessed any mental powers; but her psychic defenses should have been more formidable than that. The ease with which her psychic attack had swept through the heroine’s mental shields made the villain wonder about the heroine’s mental state. Violet paused for a second, then decided to investigate this turn of events. Her initial thought was to let the heroine have a quick but messy meeting with the concrete streets below. But perhaps there was another option. Pulling her arms into her sides, UltraViolet went into a steep power dive and swooped down after the falling heroine. Catching up to her, the villain grabbed Freedom’s limp form and smiled. Her eyes glowed with violet energy as she once again scanned the heroine’s scrambled mind.

“Oh, you really are a mess inside that pretty head, aren’t you Freedom Star? I think I can use a girl like you,” the villainess said with a smile as she flew off towards her lair, the unconscious heroine in her arms.
